Who We Are

We are a grass roots coalition of Princeton area leaders and concerned individuals and organizations, who have come together to help to end mass i

ncarceration. We have been inspired by Michelle Alexander’s book: The New Jim Crow – Mass Incarceration in an Age of Colorblindness, and her many predecessors and allies, who have worked to alert government and the public to the antecedents, problematic nature and societal impacts of our "criminal justice" system.

NJ Cannabis Conference Rally

Legalize Marijuana Rally

Come out on Saturday, October 18, to the NJ State House for a parade and rally to support the legalization of marijuana in NJ. 

This rally will include potheads, NJ Medical Marijuana Patients, cannabis consumers, politicians, parents of sick children who need medical marijuana, and anyone against the current NJ laws on cannabis. 

This is a legalization rally but will also support any progressive measures on marijuana, including a more compassionate medical marijuana program - But this rally is a demand for the Full Legalization of Marijuana. 

We will ride the trains and buses to Trenton to CONFRONT Governor Christie. 

The "Parade of the People" will begin at 2:00 PM at the Riverline train station. NJ Weedman will lead the march up Clinton Avenue make left at State street and march on to the NJ statehouse, where we will join those already gathered in front of the Statehouse steps at 3:30 PM with speeches, special prayers and ingesting of our sacrament at 4:20 PM!

At 4:20 PM, we will smoke in unison across the street from the NJ State Building in a defiant act of Civil Disobedience. 

Those who dont want to smoke can stand across the street in support. Over 150 people did this at the 4/20 rally on Easter in front of police officers, and no one was harassed or arrested. The philosophy of Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr. is that with large numbers the people have the power to successfully confront the decision-makers. We plan to implement this at the state capitol.

A little about A Better Way

Our mission is to better our communities by providing 360 degrees of support to those re-entering society, at-risk youth and their families thus helping them to find A Better Way to live. We stress empowerment by education and exposure to job skills, life skills and volunteerism thereby creating an environment of support and a history of success. Individuals who participate in our programs and master these strategies have had a positive impact on society and have become role models for their families and the communities in which they live.

ABOUT A Better Way: An organization which specializes in helping community members find a better way to live. A Better Way was created by law enforcement officers and mental health professionals who noticed that youth at-risk for incarceration, previously incarcerated individuals, and their families have the least amount of job training and lowest rate of employment. Individuals and families who would otherwise be a burden on the taxpayer can find resources and support from A Better Way. Our work in transitioning clients and their families into self-sufficiency saves taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars. A Better Way is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization located in Mercer County, NJ.

Unapologetic New Jersey

I am not bashing Governor Christie because New Jersey is almost in a state of disrepair and he inherited this problem. I also have to say SHAME on these RICH people hiding their money and can afford their tax brackets. It just hurts to know that the poorer class is actually funding this country. You don't donate to American charities must less locally.

New Jersey has the highest property tax in the nation. One of the highest Costs of living in the Country. Our plates may say the "GARDEN STATE", in reality they should say "CORRUPTION STATE". No matter how many years go by, the Mob is still running New Jersey.


The question is:....

How can we fix it? 

Answer: Let's clear out ALL the slackers. Let the "young" people come to work and be productive. We live in a state that is very dense. It's 9 million of us. We can have educated bodies in the jobs.



I was reading in the paper in regards to New Jersey's budget short fall. Until this article came out, I was unsure where Governor Chris Christie was going to TAKE the MONEY from to balance the budget.

I have to say I was a little surprised that he was taking 2.43 Billion dollars over 2 years from Public Service workers pension funding.  Much as I hate the incompetent protected Public Service employees, I felt bad. On a brighter note, he chose not to take funding from our struggling schools and Medicaid. They could have easily took the money from Medicaid due to New Jersey's choice to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act. However, in 2 years or upon expiration of the federal funding through ACA, we would have to then fully fund our Medicaid. 

I have to say, it is so much going on in New Jersey. State office workers are very incompetent and really useless. I wish there was a way to actually stop holding onto "obliged payroll personnel." They cost us so much money and government can care less. 

New Jersey is currently paying transitional aid to Trenton which some of you know about. They should be giving the money to us regardless of a transitional agreement due to the overwhelming numbers of immigrants and illegals we have in Trenton.  We should be getting that monetary amount without a clause. While we are receiving this "transitional aid", the state has full control over ALL hiring and firings. 

I just think that it is really sad because NEW JERSEY is keeping us down. Our acting mayor has been going through and finding out who is competent and who is not. He is forced to have these people on payroll. This include Appointed offices that have technically expired in February when the Federal judge threw Tony Mack out of office. 

One thing I have Learned:  

There are No politics like in TRENTON and no BIGGER CIRCUS than TRENTON!

I don't know about the rest of Trenton or even New Jersey for that matter, but I will be displaying an upside-down flag for distress.

Trenton Election Results

May 13, 2014 was Trenton's Mayoral race.

There was only a 26% turnout at the polls. That is very DISGRACEFUL. I feel that as concerned citizens we should have a higher turnout. Especially 90% of the city has raised complaint about public safety. I don't understand how change can be received when you are not a willing participant.

The 6 candidates were:

WALKER WORTHY Governance Platform

Governance

• Operate a clean, honest, transparent government, including mandatory Ethics training for all City Hall staff.
• Appoint Cabinet members who are highly skilled and knowledgeable to restore standards of service and accountability in City Hall.
• Open a dialogue with the state to restore Payment in Lieu of Taxes [PILOT] funding for the 24% of the city’s land that is occupied by the capital complex tax-free.
• Work to stabilize local property taxes by bringing in development and increasing property ratables.
• Ensure that City Hall is the resource citizens deserve. Customer service will be the top priority.
• Create a 311 system with an app where citizens can report other issues such as potholes or broken street lights for immediate attention from the city.
• Restore revenue generating departments, including but not limited to inspections and parking enforcement.
• Create accountability among landlords with multiple rental properties, including business licenses and compliance with city codes.

WALKER WORTHY JR Education PLATFORM

Education

• Use my education expertise and work closely with the superintendent, parents and students, administrators, the board of education and staff to ensure that change is meaningful and will foster an environment where our children can flourish in public schools. 
• Provide a wide range of opportunities for students, from hands-on vocational instruction to STEM education (science, technology, engineering and math)
• Provide intense academic intervention to prevent students who have not mastered grade-level material from being promoted, which ultimately set kids up to fail.
• Monitor closely the construction of Trenton Central High School to ensure follow-through and completion by the state
• Support further infrastructure improvements in several other city schools that are older than the high school, in order to ensure a quality environment.
• Appoint school board members who are knowledgable about education, understand curriculum and dedicated to quality education.

Peanut Butter Jam Slam

Our Seniors should not have to ration food or other essentials because they cannot afford. We have to take excellent care of them. They were there for us.

Starting April 1st thru May 14th, 2014

In Trenton we have 1 newspaper company that only seems to highlight the negativity of TRENTON, NJ. The Trentonian is a local newspaper company whose business is located in Trenton, NJ.  I talk to people in South Jersey a lot and they all think Trenton is the worst place in New Jersey to live.  You know it is bad when you have people in the most impoverished city in America not wanting to utilize the River Line that is a connection point to the river cities between Trenton and Camden.

The paper has an amendment 1 right to publish what they want. I totally understand that but I don't think it is fair to have so many people walking on egg shells because they are genuinely scared to come here. 

I have to tell you, Trenton is not a place as depicted in the newspaper or on local news. Sure, Trenton is not in prestige condition but we are clearly not the murder capital of America. THIS IS THE CAPITOL OF NEW JERSEY. I live here. On my street we help each other out. We have our own "neighborhood watch" crew. There were 4 drunk drivers at different times that caused damages in the thousands to about 12 cars. 1 was a hit and run that caused a chain reaction to the whole block. The other 3 got caught. 2 of the drunk drivers were caught by neighbors. It had to be more than 100 people outside trying to help. We do not use cones or other objects when snow is on the ground because we look out for each other. 

When we had a lot of snow outside. Everyone on both sides of the street except 2 houses pitched in to make sure our street was safe for the daycare. Streets and sidewalks. 

We have things to offer and are creating more reasons to come to Trenton.  Here are a few all accessible from Routes 1, 29 & 129, I-295, I-95 and I-195 W:

• Sun National Bank Center located: 81 Hamilton Ave, Trenton, NJ 08611 
• Trenton Thunder  (Minor League baseball) 
• William Trent House  (historical)
• The Old Barracks (historical)
• New Jersey State Museum with a cool Planetarium
• Patriots Theater at the War Memorial
• War Memorial  The main museum is in Sea Girt, with annexes at the 112th Field Artillery Armory in Lawrenceville and in Trenton War Memorial.
• Trenton Freedom Arena Football Team (located conveniently at the Sun National Bank Center.
• We have some nice scenic overlook parks located near the Water Front.
• There is open access to great fishing spots. (Must have valid fishing license.  They can be purchased anywhere in NJ you buy bait and tackle. Walmart as well. 

Also we have store fronts and fixer uppers for sale.

Jobs and Economy

• Use my experience and relationships with key state and county officials to create public/private partnerships and promote the benefit of doing business in Trenton.
• Utilize apprenticeship opportunities, including a Second Chance program for ex-offenders, to provide residents with marketable job skills while attracting businesses with a skilled labor pool.
• Aggressively pursue revenue and funding opportunities to maintain municipal infrastructures.
• Ensure all pending and future development provides a long-term benefit to the city.
• Create a “prompt payment” policy that ensures contractors with the city will be paid in a timely manner, allowing small business to better compete for work with the city.
• Establish a Redevelopment Authority and work with inspections, planning and zoning departments to get development projects fast-tracked.
• Bring vacant land back into use, including developing the waterfront and bringing in casino gaming.
• Foster and develop a heritage tourism industry. Build on the successes of Patriots Week and capitalize on Trenton’s significance in American history.
• Work with local banks to take advantage of civic investment and financing opportunities through the federal Community Reinvestment Act.
• Establish and maintain “round table” forums with business and labor stakeholders, in order to share valuable insight and advice on economic and job issues as they arise.
• Establish a division of contract compliance to enforce, for the benefit of job seekers and wage earners, the contractual promise of affirmative action and equal employment opportunity required of those who do business with the city of Trenton.
