My Top 10 Forbes Thoughts on Ability

  1. They are able because they think they are able. -- Virgil
  2. Ability is a poor man’s wealth.--Matthew Wren
  3. The fine points that are uncovered in our work as a result of close study, diligent care, constant application and always trying to improve our methods represent the best and most valuable knowledge we get in business-and the sum total of that attentive attitude is what we call skill. -- Roderick Steven
  4. Anyone can hold the helm when the sea is calm.  --Publilius Syrus
  5. Forget yourself in your work. If your employer sees that you are more concerned about your own interests than about his, that you are fussy about getting credit of every little or big thing you do, then you are apt to be passed by when a responsible job has to be filled.... Don’t worry about how big an increase in your salary you can contrive to get. Don’t let your mind dwell on money at all, if you can help it. Throw yourself, body, soul, and spirit, into whatever you are doing.... The truth is that in every organization, no matter how large or how small, someone is taking notice of any employee who shows special ability. --Harry B. Thaye
  6. Ability is useless unless it’s used.--Robert Half
  7. Abilities wither under faultfinding, blossom under encouragement.--Donald A. Laird
  8. Natural ability without education has more often raised a man to glory and virtue than education without natural ability.  --Cicero
  9. A man with ability and the desire to accomplish something can do anything.  --Donald Kirche
  10. Ability wins us the esteem of the true men; luck that of the people.  --François de La Rochefoucauld

15 Great Aristotle Quotes

  1. “No great genius has ever existed without some touch of madness”
  2. “Happiness is a quality of the soul...not a function of one's material circumstances.”
  3. “It is absurd to hold that a man should be ashamed of an inability to defend himself with his limbs, but not ashamed of an inability to defend himself with speech and reason; for the use of rational speech is more distinctive of a human being than the use of his limbs.”
  4. “In poverty and other misfortunes of life, true friends are a sure refuge. The young they keep out of mischief; to the old they are a comfort and aid in their weakness, and those in the prime of life they incite to noble deeds.”
  5. "Anybody can become angry - that is easy, but to be angry with the right person and to the right degree and at the right time and for the right purpose, and in the right way - that is not within every body's power and is not easy."
  6. “Men acquire a particular quality by constantly acting a particular way... you become just by performing just actions, temperate by performing temperate actions, brave by performing brave actions.”
  7. “Man is by nature a social animal; an individual who is unsocial naturally and not accidentally is either beneath our notice or more than human. Society is something that precedes the individual. Anyone who either cannot lead the common life or is so self-sufficient as not to need to, and therefore does not partake of society, is either a beast or a god. ”
  8. "The educated differ from the uneducated as much as the living from the dead."
  9. “He is his own best friend and takes delight in privacy whereas the man of no virtue or ability is his own worst enemy and is afraid of solitude.”
  10. "Are wisdom and philosophy the same thing? Surely not! For philosophy has to do with things that can be demonstrated and are eternally the same, but wisdom has not to do with these, but with things that undergo change."
  11. “Excellence is never an accident. It is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, and intelligent execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives - choice, not chance, determines your destiny.”
  12. "At his best, man is the noblest of all animals; separated from law and justice, he is the worst."
  13. “I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who conquers his enemies, for the hardest victory is over self.”
  14. "Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit."
  15. "For pleasure is a state of soul, and to each man that which he is said to be a lover of is pleasant.... Now for most men their pleasures are in conflict with one another because these are not by nature pleasant, but the lovers of what is noble find pleasant the things that are by nature pleasant; and virtuous actions are such... Happiness then is the best, noblest, and most pleasant thing in the world, and these attributes are not severed as in the inscription at Delos: Most noble is that which is justest, and best is health; but pleasantest is it to win what we love."

Trenton Election Results

May 13, 2014 was Trenton's Mayoral race.

There was only a 26% turnout at the polls. That is very DISGRACEFUL. I feel that as concerned citizens we should have a higher turnout. Especially 90% of the city has raised complaint about public safety. I don't understand how change can be received when you are not a willing participant.

The 6 candidates were:
  • Walker Worthy  (my candidate)
  • Eric Jackson
  • Paul Perez
  • Oliver "Bucky" Leggett
  • Jim Golden
  • Kathy McBride
